Friends Across Wadhurst
Offers a befriending service
in the Wadhurst area
Friends Across Wadhurst provides:
Regular home visits by a befriender
Carer respite for unpaid Carers
Do you know someone who could benefit from having a befriender or would you like a befriender?
Loneliness and social isolation is a huge problem locally and nationally. 3.1 million over-65s have no contact
with a friend, neighbour or family member in any one week; 1.8 million don't see anyone they know in a
month - appalling figures given that isolation is known to be a greater risk to health than smoking! Yet meeting new people, getting out and about with people other than family or carers helps to build self-confidence, raise self-esteem and promote independence.
'Having a befriender has helped me to feel good about myself again.'
'Things are going well with this gentleman. This time he talked more than I did.'
'Oh the hour has passed already, you had better stay for another one!'
From a befriender 'She has lost her marked reserve about meeting me and this is because of our regular visits which are all thanks to FAW.'
'I enjoyed my visit so much today that I stayed all afternoon.'
Are you a carer who stays at home juggling your life to give 'care at home'? We can help by providing a trained and empathetic befriender who will be able to help you the carer by providing respite time.
